Founder Friday Fix: Progress > Perfection, blessing or a curse?
This week I am sharing about my subconscious pursuit of perfection and the impact on my founder journey, the book teaching me about grit, and a tool that's so easy to use, it feels like magic
One of the biggest obstacles I am learning to overcome is the constant pursuit of perfection. This is so interesting to me, as I would have never described myself as a perfectionist. However, this need for things to be perfectly planned out comes through when it comes to work.
When launching a new service or product, I border on the line of over-planning and over-strategizing because I want to ensure I have thought of all possible risks, have contingencies in place, defined a very clear process to make the experience as hitch free as possible. This can be both a blessing and a curse!
Though a great skill to have in operations, can be limiting to a business owner taking risks who needs to leave room for iterations along the way. I have stewed over many brilliant ideas (if I do say so myself) a bit too long. I am learning that I don’t have to have all the answers to get started. What’s important is that I am open to an iterative process and in true kaizen fashion, finding ways to continuously improve the process as we go
A wise woman I know uses the term “Say it so you can Slay It”!
This is me saying it so I can slay the expectation of having it perfect, each time, from day 1.
Which brings me to what I am reading this week!
What I Read this week!
This week I found a book in our bookshelf, which I hadn’t noticed all along, despite it being in our home for over 5 years! To be fair, it was in my partner’s section, but I am so glad my eye caught it randomly this week.
The book is called The Chicken Soup for the ENtrepreneur’s Soul. Its filled with short stories about different successful entrepreneurs and the challenges they overcame, risks they took and battles they won to get to where they are
I am only 2 chapters in but so far, have enjoyed learning about the traits that served them well along the way. Its a version of not building in Isolation by learning from the stories of others
Feel free to share any business books that have made an impact in your journey
Tech That Saved the Day
This week, I am shouting out Gamma.app for coming to save the day! If you are not familiar with Gamma.App, its a great AI tools that enables you creates slides, websites, carousel posts or documents with your content or can generate content from an AI prompt.
This week I was building out a deck and needed some inspo for how to lay out the content in a visual format, so I popped the content and gave some simple directions, and in less than a minute I got the slide formatted to my preference. Saved me so much time trying to design the slide from scratch myself.
The best part you can do so much with the free version. Give it a try and let me know what you create
Check out this slide created by Gamma using the prompt below:
Please create a visual slide that speaks to 5 use cases for Gamma, as a business owner who runs a coaching business
Let us know if you give it a try soon! or share in the comment section any questions you have
